BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY, Ind. (April 5, 2016) – A Bartholomew County woman battered her fiancé in the presence of a child after she’d been drinking, police say.

Police responded to a home in the 15000 block of E. State Road 46 around 9:10 p.m. Monday after a reported domestic disturbance. Deputies found a man holding his 3-year-old son. The man had visible cuts on marks on his body, police said.

The man told police that his fiancée, Shannon Duke, 45, had been drinking before she became angry and abusive.

Police described Duke as “uncooperative” when they placed her under arrest. At one point, she kicked one of the deputies, police said.

Duke was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital before being transported to the Bartholomew County Jail. Charges against her include domestic battery in the presence of a minor, resisting law enforcement and battery on a law enforcement officer.
