Weather may be factor in fatal crash in Winchester

WINCHESTER, Ind. (April 5, 2016)– Indiana State Police are looking at several factors, including the weather, as to what led to a fatal crash in Winchester Tuesday morning.

The accident in Randolph County occurred  around 7 a.m. along US 27 just north of State Road 32.  According to police investigators, a semi and dump truck collided, sending the semi partially over the railing above the railroad tracks.

It is not known what caused the accident, but slick spots from overnight snow showers had been reported in the area resulting in several accidents in the county.

Police have not released which driver was killed from the rush hour crash and have yet to remove the dangling semi from the overpass .

US 27 remains closed as drivers are encouraged to seek alternate travel routes.
