Indiana woman arrested in drunk driving case after wheel falls off SUV
COLUMBUS, Ind. (April 11, 2016) – A woman was arrested in a drunk driving case over the weekend after the wheel fell off her vehicle.
According to the Columbus Police Department, Mary Ream, 56, Hope, was pulling out of a Columbus liquor store on Saturday night when the wheel came off her vehicle. Officers were dispatched to area of 25th Street and Taylor Road around 8 p.m. Saturday.
Officer Lucas Nibarger found a gray Lexus SUV; one of the passenger’s side wheels had broken off. Nibarger spoke to Ream and noticed the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath. Ream failed several field sobriety tests and gave a portable breath sample of .219, nearly three times the legal limit of 0.08, police said.
Police found a half-empty bottle of whiskey and an unopened beer inside her purse.
After being transported for a blood draw at Columbus Regional Hospital, Ream went to the Bartholomew County Jail on a charge of operating while intoxicated with a previous conviction within 5 years.
