UPDATE (February 15, 2018) — A jury found Derrick Dillard not guilty of murder after his trial. The judge ordered him to be released from custody in connection with the case.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (April 15, 2016) – The roommate of a man found slain in his east side home in January has been charged with murder.

Jeffrey Robinson, 41, was fatally shot on January 14, 2016 in the 600 block of Linwood Avenue.

Neighbors identified Derrick Dillard, 32, as Robinson’s roommate and in the vicinity of the house at approximately the same time as the killing.

Dillard was tracked to a hotel on East 38th Street where a .38 revolver was recovered.

On January 17, Dillard was arrested and charged as a serious violent felon in possession of a firearm.

IMPD announced on April 15 that Dillard has been charged with murder.
