COLUMBUS, OH (April 18, 2016) — A complete stranger’s touching tribute to a slain officer brought some people at Columbus Police Headquarters to tears.

According to the Columbus Police Department, staff at their headquarters heard something unusual outside their window on Sunday. When they opened their windows, they discovered a man playing “Taps” in front of the building.

CPD Homicide Det. Howe called the gesture “pretty incredible.”

The police department posted the video to their Facebook page and thanked the man who drove off before they could say something to him personally.

Columbus Officer Steven M. Smith died Tuesday afternoon after he was fatally shot last Sunday.
