Man in hospital after train and SUV collide

RENNSELAER, Ind. (April 24, 2016) – A man is in the hospital after a train collided with an SUV in Rensselaer Sunday evening.

Rensselaer Police say an SUV with one male driver was traveling north on North Jefferson Street, and a Hoosier State passenger train was approaching from the west.

According to officers, the train collided with the vehicle as it was slowing for a stop in Rensselaer around 7:45 p.m. (CST).

Police say the driver was extracted from his vehicle and transported by helicopter to Christ Advocate Hospital in Oaklawn, IL.

The tracks were closed Authorities say no train passengers were injured in this crash.
