LAFAYETTE, Ind. – A man was arrested after police say he attacked his ex-girlfriend’s boyfriend, and the boyfriend fought him off with a machete.

Police say John Joseph Fritz, 26, drove to the Williamsburg Apartments in the 400 block of North River Road to confront his ex-girlfriend’s current boyfriend Saturday night.

Fritz ended up getting into an argument with a woman inside the boyfriend’s apartment, says police. The boyfriend allegedly stepped between the two. That’s when Fritz attacked the man, who responded by getting a machete and striking Fritz with it, hitting him on the left shoulder near his neck, according to police.

Police responded to the apartment around 11:08 p.m. and found Fritz sitting inside his Jeep Liberty with his hand covering his wound.

Fritz was treated at a local hospital and then transported to jail after officers pieced together what had happened.

Fritz is facing preliminary charges of battery and intimidation. He was released Sunday morning after posting bond.
