INDIANAPOLIS – Police are investigating after an early morning shooting left one person dead on the east side.

Officers responded to a shots fired call near the intersection of East 9th and North Denny Streets shortly before 4:30 a.m. The police report reveals the victim was 40 years old.

When they arrived on scene, officers say they found one person suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. According to IMPD, several witnesses saw what happened and told police there was an argument between the shooting victim and another individual. Multiple shots were fired.

One woman who lives right by the crime scene says she heard yelling on her block then called 911. Another man who lives on the same street said he said a car speed off soon after the gunfire.

Police could not say whether the victim lived in the area or just happened to be in the neighborhood at the time of the shooting.

Anyone with information about this shooting is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS (8477).
