INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — An off-duty police officer was involved in a car accident early Sunday morning.

Police say the accident happened just after 3 a.m. on the far east side of Indianapolis.

According to investigators on scene, the officer was in his personal car driving on German Church Road when he slowed down with his turn signal on. That’s when another car turned into the officer’s lane and hit the officer’s car.

The other car flipped off the road and hit a utility pole. That driver was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police are investigating whether alcohol was a factor.
