Carmel men arrested after armed robbery, attempt to get away from police

UPDATE: Pavel Grachev pleaded guilty to intimidation with a deadly weapon and was sentenced to 3 years on electronic home monitoring and 2 years probation.

CARMEL, Ind. – Police in Carmel arrested two men after an armed robbery Monday night.

According to Carmel police, the two suspects followed the victims as they walked from the 200 block of 2nd Street SW to the parking lot at 434 S. Range Line Rd. One of the suspects pulled a gun and demanded money before walking away.

The victims, who weren’t hurt during the incident, called 911. Officers responded to the area around 10:40 p.m. and found both suspects near a parking lot at 220 2nd Street SW. The suspects then tried to get away from officers before being caught.

Investigators located a handgun with the help of a K-9 officer.

Pavel E. Grachev, 20, Carmel, was arrested on charges of robbery with a deadly weapon, intimidation, resisting arrest and carrying a handgun without a license. The other suspect, Caleb Johnson, 18, Carmel, was arrested on charges of robbery with a deadly weapon, intimidation and resisting arrest.

"They are considered adults in Indiana. We do not contact parents, they go straight to jail. Both of them are being charged with multiple felonies and misdemeanors," says Lt. Bickel of Carmel Police.

Both suspects were taken to the Hamilton County Jail.
