INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Hundreds of golfers gathered at Hillcrest Country Club Monday for the first ever Susan Jordan Memorial Golf Outing.

Susan Jordan is the former principal of Amy Beverland Elementary. She died in January when a bus accidentally lurched forward toward students and she pushed them out of the way. Jordan is credited with saving the lives of those students while sacrificing her own.

“Not only was she a great principal, but a very good friend," Amy Beverland Elementary teacher Margaret Powell said.

The Amy Beverland Dad's Club, a part of the school's parent association, puts on the golf outing every year, but this year was the first year the event was named after the late principal.

"Everything about this event is bigger this year," Dad's Club President David Moore said.

In the past, Moore said the club would struggle to get a group of four golfers on every hole. This year there were 144 golfers, enough for two groups on every hole.

"(Susan Jordan) was so loved by our entire school and our community as a whole," Amy Beverland Family Association President Amy Bilyeu said. "I think the response here at the golf outing is a true testament to her.”

"We really hope that our sponsors and the community are really going to propel this even forward to make it this special every year," Moore said.
All the money raised from the event will go toward teachers and students at Amy Beverland Elementary.
