INDIANAPOLIS – A new principal of Amy Beverland Elementary was approved by the School Board of the Metropolitan School District of Lawrence Township Monday evening.
With the boards approval, Jered Pennington will take over the position July 1. Pennington will transition to this role in mid-June from that of Assistant Principal at Promise Road Elementary in Noblesville Schools.
The school’s former principal, Susan Jordan, was killed and two children injured after a school bus jumped a curb and hit them on January 26. Jordan pushed several students out of the way before she was hit.
Superintendent, Dr. Shawn Smith says it’s been difficult trying to fill the position, but he thinks Pennington is a good choice.
“Although it has been a difficult process emotionally, I believe the community will be impressed with the experience and personal skills that Mr. Pennington will bring to Amy Beverland Elementary. I am confident that we have selected the best person to continue leading the school on the path of successful teaching and learning,” said According to Superintendent, Dr. Shawn Smith
Before moving in to school administration, Pennington taught third through fifth grade in both Noblesville and Avon Schools, served a as schoolwide PD developer, and member of the Promise Elementary School Improvement Leadership Team.
Pennington holds a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). He earned his Master’s degree and Administrative License from Indiana Wesleyan University in 2008 and 2012.

An open house will be held for Amy Beverland families to meet the new principal on Tuesday, May 24, between 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. This reception will take place at the school and is not open to the general public.
