INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Saturday is "parade day" in Indianapolis and 300,000 people are expected. The IPL 500 Festival Parade begins at noon in downtown and is expected to last about two hours.
It will wind its way through the city streets from its starting point at Pennsylvania and North and travel south to Washington Street then on over to Meridian, then travel around part of Monument Circle and finish north on Meridian near 11th Street.
This year, organizers say there will be 12 floats, 20 balloons and 17 bands for people to see along the route.
“Security and safety is a huge concern for us, so we want everyone to come out here and have a good time, but we want everyone to be safe.” said Major Phil Burton with Homeland Security.
“We have a large contingency of officers which you will see, and some you will not see,” Burton said.
