‘Distracted driver’ causes major traffic backup on State Road 37 accident in Greenwood

State Rd 37 and Olive Branch Rd accident

GREENWOOD, Ind. –Driver error has been listed as the cause for an early morning rush hour accident along northbound State Road 37 and Olive Branch Road.

Police report that the driver of the truck told them that he had been distracted when he reached down to grab a can of chewing tobacco and looked up and found his truck had left the roadway and ended up in a cornfield after hitting a utility pole.

Upon striking the pole, utility lines came down across both Olive Branch and State Road 37,  causing northbound State Road 37 traffic to be backed up to State Road 144.

The driver has not been cited from the incident and no damage amount has been listed for the damaged Comcast utility pole and fence belonging to Indy Farms.
