Police: Suspect used pepper spray as distraction to rob north side Subway restaurant
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.– Police are searching for a suspected robber who they say used pepper spray to distract patrons and a Subway employee while he took money from the register.
The incident occurred on May 21 just before 5:30 p.m. Police say the suspect released pepper spray into the ventilation system in the restroom at the subway located at 8798 North Michigan Road. The dining area filled up with the spray, causing discomfort to people in the restaurant and the employee.
The suspect reportedly acted as if he was assisting the employee by propping the front door open with large rugs. He then gained access to the kitchen area and went to the cash register undetected.
Police say he opened the register and took money out before fleeing out the back door.
He fled in a 2013 white Chevrolet work van with the license plate number TK651LVO, which is registered to a Curly Johnson Jr. out of Fort Wayne.
