LITTLETON, N.C. – Are people in a small North Carolina town having close encounters with the mythical “Bigfoot?”

According WNCN, several residents in Littleton, N.C., have reported seeing a “large, furry-looking animal” in the woods.

“It was very large, and its hair was super long and it was running so fast,” resident Tifanie Merrill told WNCN. “That’s not a bear and it wasn’t like a coyote. I’ve never seen anything like that whatsoever.”

Stephen Barcelo, a self-described cryptozoologist who investigates strange sightings in the area, said he found footprints and took a cast after Merrill’s sighting. He believes other residents have seen Bigfoot in the area but aren’t coming forward.

“There’s a lot of people in this town who’s had sightings who still won’t come talk to us because just out of fear of being ridiculed. And that’s very common,” Barcelo said.

Barcelo said he took another cast of an odd footprint at Medoc Mountain State Park. The footprint is now in the Cryptozoology and Paranormal Museum, which Barcelo established at his home in Littleton.
