SHELBY COUNTY, Ind. – Indiana State Police are conducting an investigation after a 24-year-old man drowned in a pond in Shelby County.
Police responded to a call in reference to a possible drowning early Monday morning around 2:45 a.m. near 3000 West County Road 450 North near the border of Fairland and Shelbyville. Multiple agencies responded to the scene and a search and dive operation was performed.
At approximately 4 a.m., divers with the Indiana State Police located the victim approximately 15 yards from shore. The victim was identified as Caleb M. Wilson-Gill, 24, of Fairland.
Preliminary investigation reveals that the victim had successfully attempted to swim across the small lake, but he began to struggle on the swim back.
