GLASGOW, Scotland – A Scottish teenager says she found a terrifying surprise inside a box of Rice Krispies: a dead bat.

Sehr Rafique, 17, said she was pouring the cereal into a Tupperware container when she noticed the bat, according to the Daily Record.

“I screamed the house down when I saw the bat,” she told the newspaper. “I am scared of spiders as it is, so this terrified me. I have never seen a bat up close, never mind one which I almost ate.”

Sehr said the bat was lodged between the box and the inner bag of cereal. It had started to decompose.

Sehr said she and her family usually eat cereal for breakfast, although the discovery has “put me off eating Kellogg’s ever again.” She said the family has “loads of boxes” in the cupboard that will never get eaten.

Her father contacted Kellogg’s about the bat. The company offered the family vouchers for a new box of cereal and told them to send the bat to them so they could investigate further.

Kellogg’s said it adheres to “very strict food safety rules” and was taking the complaint seriously.
