Two overnight shootings leave one woman dead, two others injured

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Officers with IMPD are investigating after two separate shootings left one woman dead and at least one other injured.

Police were first dispatched to the 3400 block of North Layman Avenue just before midnight on reports of shots fired.

When officers arrived they found a woman lying in the yard of a residence, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Neighbors tell police they heard shots, looked outside and saw the body in the grass. Police said the woman who appeared to be in her 50s. They believe they know the woman’s identity but haven’t yet released it. Investigators also haven’t released any information about a possible suspect in the case.

A short time later, officers were called to the 1100 block of West 35th Street where another shooting was reported. Officers say two women were shot. One woman was transported to Eskenazi Hospital with serious injuries, and the other suffered a minor graze wound.

Police do not believe these shootings are related, and urge anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS (8477).
