RIPLEY COUNTY, Ind. – An Osgood man died Friday after police say he lost control of his vehicle while driving around a curve in Ripley County.

Police say Bret L. Brown, 36, was traveling westbound on State Road 229 near County Road 200 West when his 1995 GMC Jimmy left the roadway and struck numerous trees. Brown’s vehicle then caught fire and burned as a result of the collision.

Officials responded to the crash around 9:35 p.m. and Brown was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ripley County Coroner’s Office.

Police say he was not wearing proper seatbelt restraints and speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
