INDIANAPOLIS –The Indianapolis Department of Public Works (DPW) announced Monday that traffic changes on South Alabama Street in conjunction with the opening of the Julia M. Carson Transit Center and  the system-wide route changes which began on Sunday, June 26. A bus only, northbound lane on South Alabama Street has been added for buses to use to turn into the transit center. New traffic signals were also installed at South Alabama Street and East Pearl Street as well as the South Delaware Street and East Pearl Street intersections.

These two new signals are coordinated with the adjacent traffic signals and triggered when the pulse of buses leave the Transit Center. New signal timing plans have been developed and will be implemented as part of the changes.

The changes were made to minimize impact to traffic in the area and allow buses to leave and enter the Transit Center simultaneously.
