SANTA CLAUS, Ind. – Holiday World and Spashin’ Safari in Santa Claus, Indiana was evacuated Thursday due to a “suspicious” unattended backpack.

The amusement park announced they were evacuating the park on their Twitter page around 8:30 p.m., adding that all guests were safe.

About an hour later, police said the scene was secure and gave the all clear.

“We followed protocol,” said park president Matt Eckert. “We worked with State Police to evacuate the park safely of all guests and employees. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciated everyone’s cooperation.”

Park officials say they provided free return tickets to guests as they left.

The park will reopen Friday.
