INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Two suspects are in custody after a robbery of a south side pharmacy that led to a police-action shooting Saturday.
It happened at the Low-Cost Rx pharmacy just after 1 p.m. in the 8300 block of Madison Avenue.
Police say two people went inside the pharmacy and came out carrying drugs and money. When they saw responding officers, they reportedly fled on foot to a waiting red Pontiac in the 2300 block of Grenada Drive.
A getaway vehicle was drove directly at an officer. Two shots were fired by an officer, but they did not hit anything or anyone.
The suspects then drove north on Siear Terrace, then east on Stop 11 Road. Officer with IMPD and the Southport Police Department pursued the vehicle to the 7200 block of Hearthstone Way.
Officers apprehended one robbery suspect, 18-year-old Dontae Blair and a 17-year-old, who was the getaway driver. Police are still looking for the other robbery suspect.
Outside of the pharmacy, detectives were able to recover numerous pill bottles and money believed to be taken in the robbery. They also recovered a .40 caliber handgun and a mask that officers believe the suspect dropped.
No employees were injured during the robbery.
The officer involved in the shooting was hired in December of 2015 and is currently in the second month of the Field Training Program. The officer will be placed on administrative duties while the investigation is conducted.
