INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A 9-year-old girl reunited with the doctors and first responders who saved her life Wednesday.
Allyson Kimani was airlifted to Riley Hospital for Children from Fort Wayne a few months ago when doctors say she was in severe respiratory distress.
When Alyson arrived, doctors say they only had a few minutes to decide what to do to do next. They ended up deciding that she needed to be put on a heart and lung machine.
She spent nearly the next 16 hours in surgery and ended up losing her leg from poor blood circulation.
Now, doctors say the 9-year-old will get a prosthetic leg soon, but for the time being, she is back at school and enjoying swimming again.
