Local military family surprised with groceries, sausages, new truck

SPEEDWAY, Ind. — Outside the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Saturday morning, a local military family was surprised with a prize package of a lifetime.

Columbus resident, Staff Sergeant Christoper Hill is with the Indiana National Guard. Eckrich, Operation Homefront and Richard Petty Motorsport’s surprised Hill, his wife, and their five children with a grill, sausages, coolers, a tent and grilling accessories.

Hill was overcome with emotion when NASCAR Hall of Fame driver, Richard Petty, handed him the keys to a brand new Ford F-150.

“Without your support, myself, my brothers, and my sisters could not do what we do and to have this, I wish I could have everyone here who serves in uniform, I really do, this is amazing,” Hill said.

“To be able to give back to the community and give especially our armed forces people,” Petty added.

The family was also given one year of free groceries from Kroger.
