Divers recover body of teen who drowned in Lawrence County lake

BEDFORD, Ind. – Indiana conservation officers are investigating after a teenager drowned Monday night near Bedford.

According to the Department of Natural Resources, dispatchers received a 911 call around 6:30 p.m. about a person who disappeared while swimming in Kenray Lake. First responders arrived at the scene just before 6:50 p.m. and began recovery efforts.

The victim, 18-year-old Joshua Bradford, who was swimming with three other people, went under in approximately 40 feet of water. Crews used sonar and a remotely operated vehicle to locate the victim. Divers from the Indiana Conservation Officers Dive Team recovered the teen at 1:32 a.m. Tuesday.

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday morning at the Lawrence County Coroner’s Office.

Units from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department, Shawswick Volunteer Fire Department and Seals Ambulance assisted in the case.
