INDIANAPOLIS – Six juveniles are in police custody this morning after a SWAT situation on the city’s south side early Tuesday morning.

According to IMPD, officers were responding to a death in the 200 block of East Troy Avenue in a downstairs apartment when a shot was fired from the apartment above them, down through the ceiling.

Officers set up a perimeter where they thought the shot originated. SWAT officers were called after the suspects in the upstairs apartment barricaded themselves inside the unit.

Police say the six juveniles inside the apartment eventually complied with officers and exited the unit. All six were taken into custody.

According to IMPD Commander Michael Jefferson, all suspects are under the age of 17. No officers were injured in this shooting.

Officers are not sure of the cause of death in their original investigation.

Investigators say they do not believe the shooting and the death investigation are related to each other.
