INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.— Police need your help identifying this man who is wanted for attempted child molestation.
Authorities say during the early morning hours of July 27, this man broke into the victim’s home in the 1400 block of South Belmont Avenue and attempted to sexually assault a 7-year-old girl while she slept.
"In this case the suspect had broken into the residence and then made entry into a child's bedroom where there were two children sleeping. At that time he then attempted to sexually assault a 7-year-old girl," IMPD Officer, Jim Gillespie said.
The suspect is described to be a white male in his 30’s to 40’s. He’s approximately 5’8” to 5’10” tall, with a medium build. His hair is either shaved or balding. The man was wearing dark blue shorts with yellow stripes or flames on the thigh area of each leg.
"If you look at a 5 mile radius of the area there's a good chance the suspect might actually live around the area. So it's important for the public to know about that to keep their eyes open to see if they do see that subject matching the description and immediately notify us," Officer Gillespie said.
Police say it appears he was carrying something under his left arm as he fled northbound in an alley west of South Belmont Avenue.
Neighbors are now concerned for their own safety since this suspect hasn't been caught.
"It makes you feel kind of violated even though it wasn't you it makes you feel kind of violated and you don't feel safe in your own home," Gail Austin said.
Neighbor Randy Vaught says he's taken extra steps to protect his home and he wants this guy off the streets.
"Yeah, you're supposed to be safe that's the reason I bolt everything up anymore because you just don't know," Vaught said.
