FORT WAYNE, Ind. — A Fort Wayne man convicted of beating a mentally ill man to death with a microwave has been sentenced to 85 years in prison.

An Allen County judge sentenced 29-year-old Justin D. Littlejohn Friday.

A jury convicted Littlejohn in June in the December slaying of 46-year-old Randy Lee Dial. He suffered skull fractures and bleeding on the brain in the attack in a motel room and died three days later.

Littlejohn told the court he intends to appeal his conviction and sentence.

The Journal Gazette reports ( ) Dial’s mother asked Littlejohn during Friday’s hearing what her son had done to him “that you would bash him in the head with a microwave?”

Littlejohn said he hadn’t meant to kill Dial, describing it as a fight and saying he “took it too far.”
