Five vehicle crash sends three to hospital
HENRY COUNTY, Ind. –Indiana State Police were called to a report of a five vehicle crash in an Interstate 70 construction zone Sunday afternoon.
Emergency crews responded to I-70 eastbound at the Knightstown exit shortly before 1:30 p.m.
The crash involved four semis and a Dodge pickup truck.
Investigators say the driver of one semi was driving too fast in the right lane for existing traffic conditions.
Police say the driver ran into the rear and under a box trailer being pulled by another semi that was stopped at the time.
That set off a chain reaction of vehicles hitting one another.
The driver of the first semi was flown by medical helicopter to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis with unknown injuries.
Two other truck drivers were taken to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.
The crash, which had I-70 eastbound traffic routed up and over the Knightstown exit until 5 p.m., remains under investigation.
