MUNCIE, Ind. – An off-duty Muncie police officer was arrested for drunk driving Tuesday afternoon.

A fellow officer took Chase Alan Hunter, 29, into custody near Main Street and Ohio Avenue after being called to check on the welfare of a motorist in the area, according to Muncie Police Chief Steve Stewart.

The three-year veteran officer was booked into the Delaware County Jail on a preliminary charge of driving while intoxicated around 5 p.m. He was released around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday

Chief Stewart says the officer is not working while an internal investigation is being conducted, adding that no decisions have been made regarding his employment.

The results of a blood test, measuring Hunter’s blood-alcohol level, were not immediately released.
