GREENFIELD, Ind.– A man in his 70s died Monday evening after a tree limb fell on him.

The Hancock County Coroner confirmed the man’s death. The man’s family said he went out to chop wood, which he did on a weekly basis, around 3:30 p.m. in the 7100 block of North Thomas Road.

When he didn’t come home at sundown, his wife became worried. She contacted nearby friends who later discovered his body in the woods.

An early investigation indicated the tree split while he was chopping and a limb fell and hit him. The coroner said the man died from blunt force trauma to the head.

The man’s name has not been released.
