UPDATE (Jan. 17, 2018) – Walter Davis took a plea agreement Wednesday on the charge of murder. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for Jan. 26.

Original Story:

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Police arrested a 21-year-old Indianapolis man who allegedly shot and killed his 65-year-old roommate.

IMPD was alerted about a possible unresponsive person inside a home in the 5400 block of Armstrong Court just before 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

Officers learned the suspect was possibly inside a home located in the Beech Grove area.

Beech Grove officers responded to an address in the 100 block of South 2nd Street and detained Walter Davis, 21, of Indianapolis.

Officers then obtained a warrant to enter the home in the 5400 block of Armstrong Court where they found the body of a 65-year-old man suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

IMPD identified the victim as William “Bill” Schumacher.

Detectives interviewed Davis, and they say he implicated himself as the shooter that killed the victim. The suspect is alleged to have shot and killed the victim during the early morning hours of Tuesday.

The suspect was arrested and faces a preliminary charge of murder. IMPD said the revenge was the likely motive.

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case for a charging decision.
