Man wanted in connection with June homicide arrested in Florida
UPDATE (April 11, 2018) — A jury found Joshua Farris guilty of murder. He was sentenced to 60 years in the Indiana Department of Correction.
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A suspect in an Indianapolis murder was arrested in Florida this week.
According to IMPD, officers in Ocala, Fla., took Joshua Farris, 41, into custody on Thursday. U.S. Marshals and local law enforcement officers found him in a homeless camp behind a Walmart.
On June 24, Indianapolis Metropolitan police were called to the 10900 block of East Troy Avenue after a body was found along the side of the road. Police identified the woman as 38-year-old Jeannie Howard.
Detectives saw signs of trauma but couldn’t immediately determine if the injuries led to Howard’s death. The Marion County Coroner’s Office later said that Howard died from chop wounds to the head—combined sharp and blunt force trauma.
The coroner’s office ruled her death a homicide on Sept. 2 and an arrest warrant was issued for Farris on Sept. 8.
Farris remained on the run until being arrested in Florida on a warrant for murder. He’s being held in Florida’s Marion County as he awaits extradition back to Indianapolis.
