INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Several people were displaced from their homes Saturday after their east side apartment complex caught fire.

Firefighters were dispatched to the fire at the Pangea Courts Apartments in the 4400 block of Linwood Court around noon.

When crews arrived, they found heavy fire and smoke coming from the third floor windows. As crews worked to extinguish the fire, they were notified that everyone had gotten out.

Occupants that live in the apartment where the fire started told firefighters they smelled smoke coming from their mother’s room. When they went over to see what was going on, they found fire coming from a closet and one of the occupants’ 4-year-old son hiding under a blanket. They grabbed him and ran out yelling at the other residents that there was a fire. One of the neighbors came out and pulled the fire alarm, alerting the rest of the residents.

Four units were completely destroyed and eight others sustained smoke and water damage,

The fire is currently under investigation.
