MARION, Ind.–Two boys were rescued from the Mississinewa River on the north end of Marion Saturday night.

Around 6:15 p.m. rescue crews were called to the Charles Mill Dam on a report of two boys in the water.

Witnesses said the boys were playing with a basketball that got away from them and went into the water.

The boys reportedly went into the water to retrieve the ball.

Recent rains made the water a bit more turbulent than usual and its believed the pair were sucked under the water.

Both boys were removed from the water.  Medical crews performed CPR on one of the boys and a medical helicopter took the boy to Lutheran Hospital in Ft. Wayne.  That boy’s condition was reported to be critical.

No word on the second boy’s condition.
