Sims' kayak, found by conservation officers.

PUTNAM COUNTY, Ind. – Conservation officers are searching for a 27-year-old kayaker that went missing at Big Walnut Creek in Putnam County Saturday.

Robert Simms was last seen there around 9:30 p.m. He was in a green kayak wearing blue jeans, a grey shirt, and a Budweiser hat.

Crews searched for Simms until 2 a.m. Saturday when they had to stop due to heavy fog. Their search resumed Sunday at 8 a.m.

Sunday afternoon, conservation officers located Simms’ kayak downstream from the area he was last seen.

Conservation officers are using an air boat and other watercraft to search for Simms due to swift water conditions caused by recent heavy rain in the area.
