Gas main rupture occurs after backhoe hit gas line

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. –Fire fighters and gas company officials have been on the scene of a gas main rupture along Georgetown Road near 79th street.

According to officials, a construction crew working in the area struck a major natural gas line just after 9:00 a.m. Thursday morning.

Gas was reported blowing into the air for about 15 minutes before being shut off.

While the area was not evacuated, Georgetown Road has been shut down while officials assess the situation and prepare for repairs.
