TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. – According to court documents, a man arrested for the death of a Lafayette art teacher was seeking a man who ripped him off.
Police arrested 18-year-old Darius Javon Printup early Saturday morning on preliminary murder charges in the death of Kristi Redmon, a Lafayette art teacher.
Redmon’s body was found on her front porch late Wednesday night after her neighbors heard several gunshots.
According to court documents, a witness who was with Printup the night of the murder told police Printup was looking for a man who “ripped him off.”
The witness told police Printup went to a house where a female answered the door, and that’s when Printup fired several shots. The witness said he saw Redmon fall to the ground.
Printup then fled the scene.
The Tippecanoe County Prosecutors Office placed Printup on a 72-hour hold. They have until Wednesday to file formal charges against the suspect. He is being held in the Tippecanoe County Jail without bond.
The suspects family members who attending an initial hearing said Monday was Printup's birthday and he has a "heart of gold." Police have not said if anyone else will face charges in the case.
Visitation for Redmon is scheduled for Wednesday, October 19 at Soller-Baker Funeral Home at 400 Twyckenham Boulevard. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. and go until 4:00 p.m., with a memorial service starting right after.
