CEO of Tara Treatment Center Theresa Matthews receives Sagamore of the Wabash Award

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The CEO of the Tara Treatment Center was recently awarded the state’s highest award, the Sagamore of the Wabash Award.

Theresa Matthews has spent the past 30 years helping those addicted to drugs and alcohol at the Tara Treatment Center, a rehabilitation facility in Johnson County.

Matthews is the eldest daughter of founder Ann Daugherty, who opened Tara in 1985 as a residential treatment program for addicted women.

The treatment center has provided quality care to more than 30,000 people affected by alcoholism and/or drug addiction.

The Sagamore of the Wabash is an honorary award created during the term of Governor Ralf Gates, who served from 1945 to 1949.
