INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Police are conducting a death investigation on the south side of Indianapolis after human skeletal remains were found.

They responded to a report of skeletal remains found in the woods near the I-465 exit ramp at US 31 earlier Monday morning.

It is unknown at this time how long the remains have been in the woods.

Homicide detectives are following up to see if this incident is related to any missing person cases. They’re also looking to see if the person died a natural death or if it was intentional.

“These cases are difficult to solve when you don’t know much about the person that’s there, but we try to do everything we can with all of our investigative knowledge,” said Aaron Hamer with IMPD.
