INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Metro police have arrested a woman in connection with a fatal hit-and-run on the northwest side.

Police believe Terry Ferguson, 62, struck a 23-year-old man in the 6000 block of Lafayette Road Saturday night.

Officers were called to the crash around 9 p.m. When they arrived, they located the victim, unresponsive in the roadway. EMS arrived and pronounced him dead on-scene.

Investigators believe the victim was attempting to push a vehicle out of the road when he was struck.

Police say a subsequent investigation led them to the suspected striking vehicle driven by Ferguson.

Ferguson provided a DUI investigator with a statement and was taken to Eskenazi Hospital for a blood draw. She was later preliminarily charged with failure to stop at an accident resulting in death and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

The name of the victim will be released once next-of-kin has been notified.
