Cubs provide fans with fill-in-the-blank excuse note for Game 7 of the World Series
The Chicago Cubs are chasing their first World Series title in more than a century, and the team wants to be sure that no force on Earth keeps fans from watching the game.
There’s so much at stake in Game 7 (8 p.m., FOX59) that Cubs fans already have a prewritten excuse note. Forget about any other commitments you may have planned for tonight, the team says you don’t have to worry about them.
The most important thing is watching the Cubs try to win their first World Series since 1908 (their opponents, the Cleveland Indians, haven’t won since 1948).
Here’s the note the team provide to fans via its Twitter account:
To Whom It May Concern:
Please excuse ______________ from class/work/other responsibility on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2016.
The Chicago Cubs are playing Game 7 of the World Series, and if you are not familiar with sports narratives … well, it’s kind of a big deal.
We need all the support we can muster up, and ____________ has been an integral part of our fan base for ___ days/weeks/months/years, and we cannot #FlyTheW without them.
Thank you so much for understanding, and if you ever need a cute GIF tweeted at you, we are your Twitter account.
But maybe the team should’ve thought ahead just a little bit. What if the team wins tonight’s game? It’ll be on late and a celebration will surely follow, right? Those of us at FOX59 Morning News are thinking about Jim O’Brien, who’d like to have the day off tomorrow so he can enjoy the game without having to worry about getting up early in the morning.
We even have a Twitter poll to see what our viewers think:
