SPENCER, Ind. – Crews are investigating a house explosion in Spencer that left a man dead Wednesday afternoon.

The explosion occurred in the 4400 block of Newport Drive near Rolling Meadows Golf Course.

The Owen Valley Fire Department was called to the scene around 12:18 p.m. after receiving several reports of a loud explosion and a residential fire.

When crews arrived, they found the home destroyed, with debris scattered 200 yards from the home.

Fire officials say they haven’t yet determined a cause for the explosion, but they believe it was an isolated incident and do not believe there is any threat to public safety.

Spencer residents that live a mile away from the home tell FOX59 that they felt their house shake as a result of the explosion.
