JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. – The Johnson County Animal Shelter is waiving all adoption fees for all pets throughout the entire month of December.

Normally, adoption fees are over $100. The shelter’s director said they waived all fees last December and it was wildly successful, so they want to try it again this year.

The director says the initiative is an effort to make sure all animals find homes for the holidays.

However, it is important to remember that pets are lifelong friends—they stay with you even after the holiday season.

“Even though the animals are free, we want to make sure people realize that you have a potential new member of your family that you might have to take care of for 15, 20  years,” Animal Shelter of Johnson County Director Michael Delp said.

The shelter will not allow people to buy pets for another family or a friend and still has a strict vetting process before it lets a person adopt an animal.
