ELLETTSVILLE, Ind. – Ellettsville police issued an arrest warrant for a suspect in connection with a pair of summer bank robberies in Bloomington and Ellettsville.

Billy Joe McAuley, 53, Bloomington, is suspected in both robberies. The first one happened at Peoples State Bank, 1400 W. Temperance St., Ellettsville, on June 30. In that case, the suspect handed the teller a note. After getting some money, the suspect ran into some nearby woods.

On July 14, a similar robbery occurred at Chase Bank, 100 S. College Ave., Bloomington.

After investigating the robberies, police identified McAuley as the suspect. Police didn’t have to go very far to find him—McAuley was already incarcerated at an Indiana Department of Correction facility on an unrelated charge.

McAuley faces two counts of robbery in connection with the bank robberies. He’s due in court Thursday for an initial hearing.
