Lorenzano retires from Bishop Chatard football program after 16 years
Longtime Bishop Chatard football coach Vince Lorenzano has announced his retirement after leading the team to 10 state championship appearances in 16 years. Lorenzano will remain involved with the school on its administrative team as Director of Safety and Wellness.
Lorenzano informed players of his retirement early Monday before publicly announcing his decision, stating, “there was never a time in my career here that I questioned the effort of my players, and I hope that it has been the same for you.” Lorenzano coached for 16 years at Bishop Chatard, making 10 state championship appearances.
Athletic Director Mike Ford responded to Lorenzano’s retirement, saying, in part, “He has done a remarkable job coaching our squad as well as managing our overall Football program.”
Ford added, “Most people do not recognize the degree of detail that is involved, and Vince has handled those aspects seamlessly while still showing his passion for the game and our student-athletes. The success that he has fostered is a direct by-product of taking care of each aspect of the program. He will certainly be a tough act to follow in all of these regards.”
In a letter to the Chatard community, Lorenzano writes, “In my 34 years as a High School Football Coach, I have been a part of many Championship Teams, but my fondest memories will always be of the players and the families. The loyalty and dedication of the players and their families has always been the driving force behind my coaching. I am humbled to have been a part of such great people at Bishop Chatard High School.”
Lorenzano added, “I love my players at all times and have always believed in them as young men of great merit and toughness. My hope is that I have helped to develop great men to become future leaders in our school and in our country.”
Administrators at Bishop Chatard say the are beginning the search process for Lorenzano’s replacement and they expect to make an announcement within the next several months.
