HUNTINGTON, Ind. – Police are trying to track down the vandals who defaced a WWII-era tank at a veterans memorial over the weekend.

According to the City of Huntington on Facebook, someone spray-painted “KKKK” on a tank that serves as the pride of Huntington’s Memorial Park Veterans Memorial. The city said the graffiti was part of a “wave of vandalism.”

“Perhaps the most troubling was the graffiti that took place in Memorial Park. Disrespect of monuments dedicated to the brave men and women who have fought and died this country will not be tolerated,” the city wrote on Facebook.

A cleaning crew was sent to the park this morning to start cleaning the graffiti, however, unfortunately, some of the original paint on the tank will also most likely come off during the cleaning process.

They are asking anyone with information about the vandalism to call the Huntington Police Department at 260-356-7110.
