BRAZIL, Ind. – A community is coming together to help a local family after a fire killed three people, including two children.
The victims are 18-year-old Raven Tedder, her four-month-old daughter Zoiey and Raven’s four-year-old brother Shyloi Stewart. Another 4-year-old was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Officials say 11 family members total were inside the home when the fire started on Monday around 8:30 p.m.
Investigators say gas to the home had been shut off and family members were using portable heaters throughout the house, but the cause of the fire has not been determined. The Indiana State Fire Marshal is planning to be at the home again on Wednesday to continue the investigation.
Local businesses and organizations are coming together to help the survivors. There’s a bin set up at the Kroger grocery store, just blocks from where in the fire happened. It’s in the same plaza where Raven Tedder worked.
The local support group SOS is taking donations Wednesday from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Moore Funeral Home and Four Paws Vet Center are collecting items as well.
For monetary donations, you can find the official account set up for the family at Riddell Bank.
The Clay County Youth Food Delivery Program will also be delivering kid friendly food to the home where the other children are staying.
Officials say this was the first fatal fire in Brazil in about 30 years.
