Hotel Tango Artisan Distillery asks for community support in effort to stay open past 10 p.m.
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.– A distillery in Indianapolis’ historic Fletcher Place is rallying its supporters to speak out in an attempt to stay open later.
Hotel Tango Artisan Distillery is located on Virginia Avenue, in a building built in 1890. It was originally a carriage house. When owner Travis Barnes got the building, it had sat vacant for 30 years and had no windows, doors or plumbing.
They built up the business and now produce and sell their own gin, vodka, rum, moonshine, limoncello and of course, whiskey.
Fletcher Place residents took to the new business and it quickly became a staple in the community.
Now, the owners are working to stay open later. Many bars they compete with are open until midnight, but Hotel Tango is limited to 10 p.m. due to its location being in a historic district.
They’re working on getting approval from the Indianapolis Historic Preservation Commission and the City County Council to extend their hours on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
Not everyone was thrilled with the idea, however.
“As word got out that we wanted to extend our hours, we’ve been met with resistance from a few residents in the community,” the business said in a Facebook post.
The distillery is asking its supporters to email District 19 City County Councilman and Fletcher Place resident Jeff Miller to make their voices heard.
A hearing on the matter was held Wednesday night. No final decisions were made, and the hearing and will continue next month.

Dear Friends and Neighbors:
Hotel Tango needs your support. Many of our patrons have asked that we keep our doors open past 10:00 p.m. We have heard your voices loud and clear, and are doing everything we can to make this happen. Currently, we are in the process of seeking approval from the Indianapolis Historic Preservation Commission (“IHPC”) and the City County Council to extend our hours of operation to midnight on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. We are scheduled to go before the IHPC at the City County Building, 200 E. Washington St. Room 260, on December 7th at 5:30pm.
As word got out that we wanted to extend our hours, we’ve been met with resistance from a few residents in the community.
So, what can you do to help? Join us on December 7th for the hearing. Members of the public will have the opportunity to vocalize their support. Can’t make it? No worries. Send an email to our District 19 City County Councilman and Fletcher Place resident Jeff Miller at firstname.lastname@example.org and tell him you want Hotel Tango to stay open until midnight.
We couldn’t be where we are today without our neighbors. We look forward to growing with the community and becoming an Indianapolis staple.
Thank you for your help and support!
Travis Barnes, Brian Willsey & HT Team
